ID, ME, MN, and WA had agreed to grow one or two advanced clones from NFPT for the 2014 SCRI fertility trials. Up to five Nitrogen application rates will be tested in commercial scales for each clone and investigate which N rate/rates was the optimal to achieve maximal yield and processing quality. These fertility trials will be more focused on local N need of those advanced clones and provide localized N recommendations to the growers, and thus each trial location will decide its own protocol to conduct the study. The primary goal of these trials are to evaluate how tuber maturation, affected by different N treatments during the growing season, influence tuber yield, size distribution, specific gravity, and mostly important, post-harvest processing qualities (including fry color, stem-end sugars, asparagine, and acrylamide).
