As scheduled, SCRI Agronomic trial at Wisconsin, lead by Dr. A.J. Bussan and Dr. Yi Wang, will be harvested on Oct 7th. Frying and sugar processing will be conducted on the same day.

SCRI Agronomic trial at Maine, lead by Dr. Greg Porter, will be harvested on Sep 27th.

SCRI Agronomic trial at Idaho, lead by Dr. Michael Thorton, was harvested on Sep 26th.

SCRI Agronomic trial at Minnesota, lead by Dr. Carl Rosen, was harvested on Sep 24th. Grading will be conducted during the following days.

The 2013 NFPT/SCRI field days are scheduled on October 8th and 9th at East Grand Forks, MN. Updates on NFPT/SCRI-Acrylamide results from different research groups will be presented during the meeting.

Potato varieties, blanching times and frying temperatures can all affect acrylamide levels in potato chips, according to a study just published in the Journal of the Science of Food & Agriculture. read here.

The 2012 NFPT Result Sheet is completed, finalized, and sent out to the SCRI-Acrylamide research group by Paul Voglewede from PJV Consulting on August 2nd.

A new four-year project aiming to reduce acrylamide content in processed potatoes has received a $3.7m Specialty Crop Research Initiative Grant from the US Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). read here.
