There is a group discussion in the NFPT research community about whether and how to reduce the number of acrylamide tests due to budget concern. Currently acrylamide tests were performed on all clones at early, mid and late season storage. There was a $120 charge per run.
Three options were provided by David Parish:
_Running two tests, an early season and a late season, cutting out the middle season. Running all clones;
_Running three tests, an early, mid and late but screen the clones for sucrose and glucose. Those clones with a glucose reading above a certain point would not be tested for acrylamide;
_Running three tests, early, mid and late but screen the clones on color. Those with a color below a certain level would not be tested for acrylamide.
Breeders and industry experts think the first option is the best so far.
